Writing a Letter with Intention, with Beadwork Artist, Lys Santamaria

There is something so beautiful about the act of using your hands to create something new. I usually create beaded artwork but I have recently found the art of intentional letter writing. It’s a really magical process that can be done with items that you have on hand.

My process is fairly simple - but it requires dedicated time and intention. First, I gather a few objects that remind me of the person that I’m writing to. Next, I brainstorm a list of ways that I love them - I love jotting down funny stories, beautiful moments or small things that they do that make such a difference. Then I pick one of those things and start to write. Making a list is important because it taps you into your emotions and provides a clear guideline of what you want to say. It is so much better than writing a generic: “Thanks for being a great wife/friend/sister”. It is specific, detailed and full of real emotion.

I made a video about how I use my handmade greeting cards to write letters to my friends, family and loved ones - infusing each letter with my love and gratitude. Check out my video HERE:
