This extraordinary deer skull "Aguas Mágicas" was created by Contemporary Beadwork Artist, Lys Santamaria.  "I began this deer skull within my first weeks of self-isolation during Covid-19. Every time I washed my hands, I realized the power of water to heal our bodies. We too, are made of water.  And if we are water, then each of us has the capacity to heal, cleanse and adapt - just like water. I wanted this piece to be a source of inspiration and hope during these challenging times".  This sculpture is meant to reflect the greatest and most powerful version of our true natures.

On a trip to Big Bend National Park, Lys found this real deer skull and began the process of transforming it into this mystical piece you see now. To create this piece, Lys cleaned the skull, laid down every bead individually, mixed every shade of blue, and painted every dot with care. Every surface has been carefully contemplated, painted, and decorated. This deer skull took many hours of cleaning, painting, beading, and conceptualizing. The attention to detail on every surface is evident - even the underside of the skull is intricately painted in pointillism.
