In February 2021, a severe winter storm hit my community in Austin, TX. Hundreds of thousands of people were left without power and water for one week - myself included. We spent days in a freezing cold apartment with no way to warm ourselves, our food, or our pups. Thankfully, we were eventually saved by a friend who had electricity and opened her home to us. When I returned, my home didn’t feel safe anymore. These earrings were made with the hopes of mending my relationship with my home. Making the “This Is My Home” earrings helped me to move through those difficult emotions and trauma. As I was creating, I realized that my real home is within and nothing can ever take away the protection and safety that my home provides. These earrings honor the importance of our physical, emotional, and spiritual homes in our lives.
